Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival 2015 - Thu 28th May
RATHLIN SOUND MARITIME FESTIVAL 2015 - THU 28 MAY
Shipwreck exhibition
11am to 3pm. Pop in to the Richard Branson Centre and enjoy a remarkable display of shipwreck artefacts salvaged from the waters around Rathlin Island. This popular exhibition is testimony to the rich maritime history of the area and a moving reminder of the ever present risk to a life on the sea.
The Undersea World of Rathlin Island
2pm Parochial Hall. Dive into the undersea world of Rathlin Island with Joe Breen and Gary Burrows, marine biologist divers with DOE Marine Division. This illustrated presentation will show you that the marine life around Rathlin Island is a match for any coral reef in the world (if only a little cooler)
“A Boat Retold”
An Evening of Storytelling with Ian Stephen, Christine Morrison and Ken Linklater. 8pm Parochial Hall. Isle of Lewis storyteller Ian Stephen will host an evening of storytelling and music, including a screening of “A Boat Retold”, a short film about the rebuilding of an 18foot traditional Scottish Isles boat and its voyage to the Shiants Islands. The event will also feature images from the revival of Lewis lugsail boats and stories linked to them. Ian, Christine and Ken were a popular addition to the 2014 Festival programme, and this will be another evening not to be missed.
Full 2015 programme available here.
