RATHLIN SOUND MARITIME FESTIVAL 2018 - FRIDAY 25 MAY

The return of the highly popular Rathlin Sound Maritime Festival for 2018 - the sixth time for this festival encompassing both Rathlin and Ballycastle, and of course the water between.

1.30pm Boat Blessing to launch the festival, Pier 1, Rathlin Harbour

5.30pm Lagan Curragh departs Ballycastle for Rathlin

9.00pm The Mary Wallopers, live music in McCuaig’s Bar

Friday 25th May – Sunday 3rd June SS Lochgarry exhibition, featuring images and information on SS Lochgarry, one of Ireland’s most popular recreational diving wrecks, St Thomas’s Church

Friday 25th May – Sunday 3rd June Yarn bombing where local knitters and crotchetiers will yarn bomb the harbour area. Panels will be sewn together and all pieces donated to support refugees.

Friday 25th May – Sunday 3rd June Drontheims and currachs. Over the festival our beautiful locally-built traditional boats such as Drontheims and Currachs will be in Rathlin’s waters

Friday 25th May – Sunday 3rd June ‘Mamoch Mor’ Currach leaves Ballycastle for Rathlin at 5.30pm. This community-managed boat brings a taste of live maritime history to the festival.

Friday 25th May – Sunday 3rd June “Literally a Littoral Litter Wall”, a display of plastic items, flotsam and jetsam found on Rathlin’s shores which have made their way into the nooks and crannies of the stone wall in front of Kinramer Cottage towards the West Light.
