Damian Gorman Visit

Thursday 19 August 2010

Fourteen people came along last night to the Richard Branson Centre to hear about and discuss the new project that writer Damian Gorman is working on.

The project is intended to allow island residents to actively contribute to the assessment of the BIG Lottery funded community development project. Damian will be working with people, listening and collating views and ideas into a narrative that will form the report on the project that the BIG Lottery require as part of the funding deal.

This input from the people of the island is meant to focus on the five main objectives of the community development project:

  • more islanders participate actively, with greater confidence and skill, in community activity;
  • volunteer work is increased, supported and recognised;
  • partnerships are built with voluntary and statutory agencies to improve quality of life for the community;
  • a social and educational programme is developed in response to the community needs and ideas;
  • increased engagement within the Rathlin community and with other communities, including other islands.

    Damian will be visiting the island on several occasions over the next few weeks and would very much like to sit down and chat with as many island residents as possible. He has already set up times with several people for next Tuesday 24th August, and will be back on the island soon after that. Anyone who would like to chat with Damian please contact David or Stephen in the Resource Centre.
