Fairtrade Event

Sarah Jewell and Anna Michael Mlay

Wednesday 9 March 2011

As part of the international Fairtrade Fortnight, the Rathlin Island Fairtrade Group held an event in the Richard Branson Centre last Friday.

Ann Henderson and Jonathan Mitchell meet Anna Michael Mlay

The group were delighted to welcome Anna Michael Mlay from the KDCU coffee co-operative in Tanzania, and Sarah Jewell from the Fairtrade Foundation in the UK. Anna Michael spoke about the very important positive impacts that Fairtrade has on her community, there was a powerpoint presentation about all the Fairtrade work already done on the island (thanks to Jessica), and island residents bought a number of Fairtrade products that were available.

Anna Michael and Sarah also visited the school, and Anna Michael has blogged about her visit to Rathlin. All the remaining Fairtrade stock is now on sale in the island shop (alongside the existing Fairtrade stock), and there will be more Fairtrade events on the island soon. Watch this space! Thanks to Anna Michael and Sarah for coming to Rathlin, and to everyone who turned up.
