We have been approached by the author of a new children's book set on Rathlin. Aimed at 4-10 year olds, Rathlin Girl is the story of "little girl called Katherine who goes to visit her granda in Ballycastle. They go on a day trip to Rathlin Island. They visit the RSPB lighthouse and hope to see the puffins but they haven't arrived yet. They enjoy exploring the Island and meeting cows, golden hares, and seals. Unfortunately, they miss their ferry but then meet an orca and hitch a ride on its back along the coast and then they come back to Rathlin and sleep overnight on the beach as they missed the ferry. The next morning the orca brings all the puffins and the puffins arrive so Katherine and her granda get to see the puffins. Katherine is very happy and sings."

The author Cora Calahoun is originally from Belfast and was inspired to write the book after a visit to Rathlin last year. The book is currently only available on Amazon, and will hopefully be stocked elsewhere as well soon.
