Polling Station Success
Wednesday 2 February 2011
The RDCA warmly welcomes the decision of the Electoral Office to reverse their proposal to remove Rathlin's polling station.
Chief Electoral Officer Graham Shields said that the concerns of the island residents had been considered during the period of public consultation. The RDCA organised a petition of island residents during the consultation (which was signed by sixty people), and made a number of arguments for the retention of the polling station, including the fair and equitable treatment of Rathlin voters and the need to support an area of traditional high voter turnout.
Many thanks to everyone who supported Rathlin's case, in particular all those who signed the island's petition.
