Refugee Crisis Response

Monday 7 September 2015

As many island residents will already know, a group on the mainland called Moyle - Calais Refugee Solidarity has organised collections of clothes, blankets, tents etc. for the refugees in Calais, and now also for those on Kos and other Greek islands.

The items that are urgently needed for Calais include:

Tents (especially 4-person plus)
Heavy duty rubbish bags
Blankets and sleeping bags
Mens warm winter clothes in small and medium sizes
Mens scarves, hats and gloves
Mens shoes (runners and walking shoes only)
Candles and torches
Toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, razors, shaving foam
Tissues, toiletry bags
Bikes, puncture repair kits, bike tools
Medicines, first aid supplies.

In addition, children's supplies are being sought for the Greek islands:

Warm baby/kids clothing
Winter kids footwear
Blankets
Nappies/baby wipes
Sanitary towels
Soap
Toothpaste/toothbrushes
Baby slings.

Plus: cardboard boxes, vacuum bags, strong tape and marker pens for packaging. Please note, no liquids can be taken (e.g. shampoo), and material for each destination should be packed separately. Materials can be dropped into the Resource Centre, or directly to collection points in Ballycastle and elsewhere on the mainland including the Harbour Bar (5.00pm - 9.00pm), and Unit 6 at Leyland Industrial Estate (Mon-Fri, 10.00am-4.00pm). There are frequent updates on the Moyle - Calais facebook page.
