The Committee of the Rathlin Development & Community Association, on behalf of the Rathlin Island community, would like to express their great shock and sadness at the tragic loss of Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116 yesterday off the Mayo coast.

As an island community, the people of Rathlin express their heartfelt sympathies to the families, colleagues and friends of Dara Fitzpatrick, Mark Duffy, Paul Ormsby and Ciaran Smith, and also their enormous gratitude to the crews of 116 and all of the SAR crews that have risked their lives to assist those at sea and living on offshore islands, including Rathlin.

McCuaig's Bar has organised a book of condolences and a collection, which will be available in the bar over the St Patrick's weekend.
