Award for RDCA Chair Michael Cecil

Monday 19 June 2017

Michael Cecil, current chair of the RDCA, is to receive an OBE for his services to the community..

Rathlin has a hard working community that has always been actively involved in its own development. In recent years this has brought particularly demanding opportunities and many community members have risen to the challenges.

Since Michael joined the Committee in 2007, and was appointed Chair in 2012, he has given untold hours of commitment and service with the community, building positive working relationships with a variety of organisations, agencies and individuals, seeking to improve the quality of life for islanders and visitors. We are pleased that Michael’s consistent work on behalf of Rathlin and its community has been recognised.

It is fitting that this award was announced while Michael was volunteering in support of refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos, evidence of Michael’s own personal and inspirational commitment to others. This is the third such award for a Rathlin resident in recent years.
