Habitat for Humanity Meeting

Monday 8 February 2010

The public meeting with Habitat for Humanity and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive was very well attended, with seventeen island residents coming to the Richard Branson Centre on Saturday afternoon to get information and to discuss affordable and social housing on Rathlin.

The Housing Executive are currently looking at land purchase options on the island, and if opportunities arise, will liaise with housing associations about possible new builds. More information should be available within the next two months. Habitat for Humanity remain committed to exploring affordable housing support for the island community, and conversations will continue with the Housing Executive and other interested parties. A sum of £109 was donated to Habitat for Humanity for their work in Haiti after Francis Mc Ginn's bus company returned payment for transporting island residents to Fr Mc Ateer's funeral, and further amounts were donated at the meeting.
