Volunteer Visitors
Friday 25 June 2010
A group of five students and two faculty members from West Virginia University visited the Island on Tuesday, along with two Corrymeela volunteers, to work on a beach clean by the harbour, as well as weeding around the Boathouse Visitor Centre, some of the roadside and a number of gardens.
The group were also brought up to the RSPB Seabird Centre by the RDCA, as part of a tour of the island. Their academic focus, while in Ireland (North & South), was on literature and identity, as well as their involvement with direct service. They came to us through Corrymeela and are the second group to come to us through the Amizade volunteer programme of global service and learning. Amizade is the Portuguese word for friendship. Many thanks to all of them for their hard work on the day.
