Commission of Public Art at Ballycastle Seafront and Rathlin Island Foreshore

Moyle District Council wishes to commission an outstanding artist to design and arrange the production, delivery and installation of two pieces of public art to be located at Ballycastle Seafront and Rathlin Island Foreshore as part of the Causeway Coastal Route Interpretation which aims to market the route as a ‘world class experience’.

An Appeal to Campers

While many campers are respectful of the Island’s beautiful environment, unfortunately many are not. Campers on Rathlin this weekend left a serious mess in the area between Church Bay and Mill Bay.

Quilt & 'Arpillera' Making

On Thursday 8th July in the Richard Branson Centre at 11.00, Chilean curator Roberta Bacic will be talking about making 'arpilleras' - story-telling quilts. There will be plenty of examples, some short films, and most importantly, a discussion of how the Rathlin community can proceed with an arpilleras project. All very welcome.


Music Lessons

Many thanks to Michael and Catherine Sands who have been giving very useful music lessons since April, and to all who have been availing of them. The lessons have now stopped for the Summer season, and will resume in September when everybody has more time to devote to the lessons and practicing!


Tristan da Cunha Public Talk

The Richard Branson Centre was full last night for a public talk by Brad Robson, Fermanagh Area Manager for the RSPB about the year he and his family spent on Tristan da Cunha, the small and extremely remote group of islands in the South Atlantic, working on conservation issues.

Volunteer Visitors

A group of five students and two faculty members from West Virginia University visited the Island on Tuesday, along with two Corrymeela volunteers, to work on a beach clean by the harbour, as well as weeding around the Boathouse Visitor Centre, some of the roadside and a number of gardens.

Drama Group Play

The Rathlin Drama Group will be presenting the one act play "Belle of Boolavogue" on Thursday 15th and Saturday 17th July, at 8.30 in the Parochial Hall as part of Festival Week.

Design Contest

The design contest for a piece of public art for Rathlin harbour has been re-opened. The new deadline is Friday 23rd July 2010. Any previous applicants must reapply to be considered. Further information available here.


Music Lessons

Unfortunately, tomorrow's tin whistle lesson with Catherine Sands has been cancelled. Also, in view of the busy Summer period for everyone, it has been decided that both sets of lessons will be suspended until the Autumn.

Keep Fit Classes/Jogging Group

Following the popular Keep Fit Classes run by Matthew Watterson, the RDCA are considering how the classes may continue and have also invited Matthew to start and facilitate a Jogging Group for the community. A date for this will be confirmed soon.
